Atalanta ease past Sampdoria to remind us all that they are still in the race.

A couple of goals from Teun Koopmeiners helped Atalanta easily beat Sampdoria 4-0 last night, a result that puts them to within a game in hand win of moving ahead of fourth-placed Juventus.

Atalanta have had an awful start to 2022, despite being Italy’s only remaining representatives in the UEFA Europa League. But that two-legged win over Olympiacos might have been the spark that relit their season.

Mario Pasalic scored the opener early on, added to on 29 by Koopmeiners’ first goal, a good finish from the corner of the box.

The Dutchman put the game to bed on 61 minutes and a late Miranchuk goal added some gloss to the result.

Good to see Atalanta going for it again, like the Atalanta of a couple of years ago. They might still have a say in the Champions League places this season.

More rumours in Italy about the future of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. Just before the end of that transfer window, Arsenal were linked with a move for him, but recently another Premier League big gun has been mentioned as a potential suitor for Osimhen.

Aside from Dusan Vlahovic, Osimhen is arguably Serie A’s standout star this season with his mixture of power, pace and intelligence, he has become the focal point of everything Napoli do when he is on the pitch. But he can do that on the deck when Napoli are passing it well and also late in matches when they tend to go a bit more direct.

The fee mentioned is 100 million Euros, incredible given that Juve paid only 70 million for Vlahovic.

Tonight sees a Coppa Italia Milan derby as Milan host Inter in the first leg of the semi final. Napoli will probably enjoy this game more than anyone as they watch on from home with no midweek commitments left this season.
