Vlahovic Sets Up Viola Clash! – Italian Football News 11 Feb 22

A late winner in the Coppa Italia from Vlahovic sets up a semi final against his old club.

Quite an evening in the Coppa Italia, resulting in Fiorentina and Juventus going through to face each other in the semi final, where Dusan Vlahovic will face up against his former team.
Fiorentina travelled to Bergamo where Atalanta conceded an early penalty. VAR called the ref’s attention to a foul in the box and the spot kick was given, slotted home by Piatek.
On the half hour, Zappacosta scored with a stunning strike from the corner of the box to level things up and in the second half, it looked good for Atalanta when new signing Boga scored his first goal for the club. Boga doing all the work himself with a beautiful dribble and deft finish into the top corner.
On 71 minutes, a second penalty for Fiorentina and Piatek was saved by Musso but the Pole was first to the rebound to bring Fiorentina level but they were harshly reduced to 10 men when Martinez was given a second yellow, despite seeming to clearly get the ball first.
The final drama took place deep into stoppage time when a Fiorentina free kick was lobbed forward, Atalanta couldn’t deal with it and defender Milenkovic put away a lovely strike from the edge of the box to win the game.
Next, over to Turin for Juve’s tie against Sassuolo.
Juve captain Paulo Dybala scuffed his shot over the keeper after just 3 minutes to give his side the lead but after that, it was al Sassuolo. Two fine saves from Perin kept Juve ahead but there was nothing he could do when Traore cut in from the left to curl it past the Juve keeper and into the top corner for 1-1.
Late drama when, with two minutes to play, Vlahovic was played into the corner. He wriggled his way past De Sciglio into the box and his wayward shot was deflected into his own net by Ruan to put Juventus through.
The semi finals look fantastic, a Milan derby and Fiorentina versus Juventus, both ties are over two legs, the first taking place on the second of March, the second leg taking plkace on April 20th.
