One of the most controversial, explosive, fantastic and divisive players Italian football has ever produces is on the verge of a stunning recall to the Italy squad when they meet up in the forthcoming International break.

Super Mario Balotelli, currently plying his trade in the Turkish Super Lig after spells at both Milan clubs, Liverpool, Marseilles, Lyon and, of course, Manchester City where he set up that iconic Agueroooooo moment, has always been admired by Mancini. And now, Mancini could be turning to his friend to spearhead the Italy attack in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against North Macedonia and then either Portugal or Turkey.

Mario has not played for Italy for three years and he celebrated the good news yesterday with a goal and an assist for Adana Demirspor.

Even in Mario’s world, this news is a bombshell. It could backfire spectacularly on Mancini and make him look an utter idiot. On the other hand, Balotelli’s last tournament for Italy was Euro 2012 when he utterly destroyed favourites Germany in the semi final.

Come on, Mario, one more time for Italy.

In Serie A, a late Edin Dzeko goal gave Inter a welcome win at home to Venezia, putting them 5 points ahead of Milan, who play Juventus tonight. Elsewhere, Lazio and Atalanta drew 0-0 and Genoa/Udinese finished 1-1.
