Spitting Row! – Italian Football News 8 Feb

Ciao, ragazzi! This is Andrew with your Calcio Daily for Tuesday February 8th, our 166th daily show in a row!

Before we begin, remember that Calcio Daily is a value for value podcast – you donate what you think the show is worth and the best way to do that is via the Fountain podcast app on iPhone or android, or you can buy each episode as an NFT on OpenSea, just search for Calcio Daily.

We have seen footballers do horrible things to each other on the football field over the years, but the action that is always referred to the very worst thing you can do to another player is spitting.

Video emerged yesterday that shows Theo Hernandez calmly walking down the stairs to the tunnel after his red card in the very final seconds of Saturday’s Milan derby. Lautaro Martinez then appears to run to the edge of the staircase, shouting down at his opponent and spit down at the Milan defender.

This causes Hernandez to run back up the stairs to argue with Martinez, who by this point is being restrained by colleagues and stewards.

What makes it funny, though, is that the final whistle goes while Martinez is being manhandled, his team having lost against their rivals.

In terms of punishment, the disciplinary committee sits today but they will only judge if it is mentioned in the referee’s report. If not, a separate hearing will be heard over the incident.

Now that the transfer windows has closed, clubs are working to get deals signed for the players who are soon out of contract.

One of those is victorious AFCON-winning captain Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli, who has reportedly been offered a 4 year deal worth 5 million euros a season. Juve are meeting again with the representatives of Paulo Dybala to further their renewal talks, but they are apparently not offering any more money, while Inter are preparing a new deal for defender Stefan de Vrij, although his deal does not expire until 2023.

That’s all from us today, remember to support us via a donation on the Fountain podcast app!

Until tomorrow, this is Andrew saying “arrivederci, ragazzi, a domani!”
