Serie A Is Back! – Italian Football News 03 Jan 23

Ciao, ragazzi! This is Andrew with your Calcio Daily for Tuesday, January 3rd! It’s 2023!

Serie A is back tomorrow and it kicks off with a real whizzbanger when league leaders Napoli travel to Inter, who are 11 points and places below them in the table.

After defeats for PSG and Benfica in the last 24 hours, Napoli are the last undefeated team in the major European leagues.

Meanwhile, the January transfer window is open and while Italian clubs won’t be competing for the likes of Mbappe, Messi or Kane, there will be a lot of activity.

Juventus, who have a history of picking up elite free transfers, are now going to work hard trying to prevent one of their stars from leaving without a fee.

Adrien Rabiot has never been popular in Turin but his superb world cup has led to a host of clubs chasing his signature but Juventus must either convince him to extend his contract beyond this summer or attract bids from clubs who are willing to pay cash for him now. Reports suggest that Juventus have offered a 7,000,000 euros bonus to his agent, who happens to be his mother.

Meanwhile, Juve are reported to be in for Brighton’s World CUp winning Argentinian Alexis Mac Allister as well as listening to offers for Weston McKennie while Morocco’s Annedine Ounahi is the subject of a 22 million euros bid from Napoli.

Elsewhere, the FIGC, the Italian FA, has revealed a rebranded logo for the national team, along with a 3-second “sound identity”. The logo is more plain than the existing one, which is only 5 years old and the main complaint is that although the four World Cup stars are present, they are in white rather than the current gold.

But the main question is, did we need a new logo?

Here are this weeks’ Serie A matches, all taking place tomorrow.
