New Job For Pirlo? – Italian Football News 15 Feb 22

Andrea Pirlo emerges as the surprise favourite to take over at Salernitana.

Ciao, ragazzi! This is Andrew with your Calcio Daily for Tuesday February 15th, our 173rd daily show in a row!

Unsurprising news came out of the south of Italy yesterday as Salernitana announced the sacking of coach Stefano Colantuono, who was only given the job in October.
Salernitana were bottom of the table at the time and that’s where Colantuono leaves them, having failed to spark any defensive solidity, nor any improvement going forward, despite the signing of Portuguese veteran Nani.
He won just two of his 15 matches in charge, losing 10.
The shock news was that the person who emerged as the frontrunner for the job of keeping awful Salernitana in Serie A is none other than the man who squeezed Juventus into the Champions League last season – Andrea Pirlo.
Reports suggest that Pirlo is open to taking the job on a long term contract and will not ask for a release cause if (or rather, when) Salernitana get relegated to Serie B.
Late drama in last night’s final Serie A game of the weekend as Fiorentina scored at the end of 90 minutes to seal a 2-1 win over Spezia.
Piatek had the chance to open the scoring after 15 minutes when Fiorentina were awarded a penalty but he struck the spot kick against the post and Spezia cleared.
He got his goal just before the break, prodding home from close range.
Despite more Viola pressure in the second half, Kevin Agudelo robbed Amrabat on the half way line and did all the work himself, finishing neatly to draw Spezia level on 75 minutes but Amrabat redeemed himself a minute from the end of normal time when he squeezed his shot from the edge of the box inside the post.
This week sees Inter at home to Liverpool in the Champions League tomorrow night, while Napoli, Lazio and Atalanta play in the Europa League on Thursday.
That’s all from us today, remember to support us via a donation on the Fountain podcast app!
Until tomorrow, this is Andrew saying “arrivederci, ragazzi, a domani!”
