It’s so good to have some football to talk about!

Serie A exploded into action yesterday with the Milan derby. My prediction was a clear win for Inter and when Ivan Perisic stabbed home for another Inter goal from a corner, it felt like that was the first of many. Inter were well on top in the first half, Milan limited to a role of trying to contain them.

Contain them they did, riding their luck on occasion but generally remaining very well organised, Pioli barking instructions continually from the side.

On 75 minutes, Milan had the overload in the Inter box. Tonali found Diaz, whose shot from the corner of the box was deflected to Giroud who slid in and poked it past Handanovic, who looked lost.

Three minutes later, absolute scenes as Giroud won it.

Canabria found him in the box, Giroud turned de Vrij and curled it past Handanovic. The Inter keeper had time to get a strong hand to it but made a horrible mess of the save.

The final act was a classic wipeout by Hernandez on Dumfries deep into stoppage time. The Frenchman not even waiting to see the card.

A stunning win for Milan, who are now just a point behind Inter, having played a game more.

Later, Fiorentina got the post-Vlahovic era off to a horrible start, losing 3-0 at home to Lazio. After a shared first half, Milinkovic-Savic opened the scoring when Zaccagni put him through to slot past Terracciano.

On 70, Immobile scored Lazio’s second after a one-on one and when he was put through again on 81, he rounded the keeper to square for a teammate but Fiorentina’s Biraghi couldn’t avoid bundling the ball over his own goal line.

Earlier in the day, honours were shared between Roma and Genoa after a 0-0 draw but no honour for Roma captain Nicolo Zaniolo who let his side down, getting a straight red after arguing with the ref who had just disallowed a 93rd minute winner from him.

Still to play this weekend:

Bologna v Empoli
Sampdoria v Sassuolo
Venezia v Napoli
Udinese v Torino
Juventus v Verona
