Honours even as Napoli and Inter fought out a 1-1 draw in Naples.

The goals and the points were shared last night in the game between Napoli and Inter, handing Milan the chance to leapfrog both of them into first place when they play Sampdoria today.

Napoli dominated the first half and there was a strong sense that the solitary goal they had managed would likely not be enough to keep Inter at bay in the second half.

After just 5 minutes, Victor Osimhen was clipped in the box and although the ref didn’t spot it, he was referred to the screen by VAR and pointed to the spot.

Insigne squeezed the penalty kick millimetres away from Handanovic’s hand and inside the post to put the home side a goal up. They had further chances with Zielinski hitting the post and an excellent chance falling to Insigne, which he blasted over. For theit part, Inter created great chances for Dzeko and Dumfries.

A minute into the second half, Dzeko made a horrible mess of a Dumfries cross but he was first to react when his header came back off Koulibaly to smash the ball in off the crossbar. Harsh on Koulibaly who was absolutely immense throughout the game.

In truth, that was the end of the excitement. The second half was a drab affair, marked by the way Napoli decided not to pump the ball into the Inter box from a free kick with seconds to go, the referee’s whistle blowing for full time as Spaletti was going crazy at his players for not going for it.

An early start for Milan sees them face Sampdoria but the game of the day is in Bergamo, where fifth-placed Atalanta will try to slow down the Juventus juggernaut. Juve boss Max Allegri has been talking about how well his new signings Dusan Vlahovic and Denis Zakaria have settles into the squad. Vlahovic, in particular, is saying the right things, saying that his teammates Morata and Dybala are an inspiration and while it might be early to speak of Juve pushing for the title, it’s not impossible, especially with Juve’s history of ‘surprising’ victories.

Another interesting game with be between Sassuolo and Roma. Mourinho needs a win after some poor results and he is alleged to have read the riot act to his players after their defeat to Inter in the Coppa Italia, accusing them of being timid when they face bigger teams.
