Milan Choke! – Italian Football News 18 Jan 22

After Inter’s draw against Atalanta on Sunday, Milan had the chance to go top. But they blew it.

Ciao, ragazzi! This is Andrew with your Calcio Daily for Tuesday January 18th, our 145th daily show in a row!
After Inter’s goalless draw with Atalanta on Sunday, city rivals Milan had a chance to leapfrog them into top spot last night and they started extremely brightly at San Siro against Spezia, managed by former Inter player Thiago Motta.
Leao went close twice with almost identical efforts from the left of the box. The first fizzing wide and the second just saved by Provedel.
Provedel himself then lost his mind just before the break, receiving a throw-in, juggling it up but too close to Leao, who got to the ball first before the Spezia keeper booted the Milan forward with his clearance instead of the ball.
After checking the screen, penalty to Milan. Theo Hernandez stepped up and dragged the spot kick wide but within a minute, the unstoppable Leao raced onto a wonderful long ball from Krunic to lob the keeper.
Spezia threatened early in the second half and equalised when Daniele Verde hammered a cross into the Milan box, Agudelo finding himself unmarked to finish from close range.
On 92 minutes, a very controversial moment. Rebic was fouled on the edge of the Spezia box and the ref blew for a free kick to Milan, just as Junior Messias whalloped the ball in from 18 yards. The goal could not stand as the free kick had already been awarded. Milan’s shock compounded moments later when Spezia broke, Kovalenko found Gyasi unmarked in the Milan box and the Ghanaian finished calmly with the last kick of the game.
In Bologna, two goals from Chucky Lozano kept up Napoli’s title bid but top scorers on the night were Fiorentina.
4-0 up at half time at home to Genoa, despite Vlahovic messing up his early panenka penalty, they added a further two in the second half to take all three points and move up to 8th.
