Euro Shame For Juve! – Italian Football News 12 Oct 22

Ciao, ragazzi! This is Andrew with your Calcio Daily for Wednesday, October 12th!

It was meant to be the game that put Juventus back on track, a relatively easy game against unfancied opposition.

Instead, the Juve team fly back from Israel with their tails between their legs and their bags packed for a ritiro until their next game, the Turin derby against Torino on Saturday.

They were soundly beaten 2-0 by Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League, leaving them in third place in their group with PSG and Benfica both needing to get only a point from their last two matches to go through, given that both clubs are 5 goals better off on goal difference.

After the game, the man they are calling Captain Sl`ow Ball – Allegri – explained it all away……….

“It is difficult to explain, we can only be silent, because it was not a good performance in terms of character,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

“We must emerge from this situation and keep quiet. Tomorrow we return to Turin and we’ll remain at the Continassa training ground until the derby.

“It’s not a technical or tactical issue, this team lacks heart and passion. We play too much as individuals, we need to get back to being a team.”

Meanwhile, it was a bad night for Milan at San Siro for different reasons. On 18 minutes, Mason Mount got in behind Fikayo Tomori, who grabbed and tugged at his former teammate, bringing him down in the box.

No complaints about the penalty award but the red card shown to Tomori was harsh and enraged Milan players and fans alike.

Jorginho put the penalty away and the game was effectively over, Milan never able to recover with a man down and a sense of injustice dominating their night.

A second goal from Aubameyang made it 2-0 on the night and leaves Milan rock bottom of their group but only 3 points off a qualifying place.

In tonight’s group games, Inter travel to Barcelona while Napoli can qualify for the round of 16 with a win at home to Ajax. A points would probably be enough but a win would seal it for sure.
