Clash of The Titans! – Italian Football News 04 Jan 23

Ciao, ragazzi! This is Andrew with your Calcio Daily for Wednesday, January 4th!

Serie A returns today with all 10 games kicking off today between 10:30 and 6:45 PM UK time and stats gurus Opta have released their table of probabilities for all clubs in Serie A.

At the foot of the table, there’s bad news for the current bottom three, Cremonese, Sampdoria and Verona, who are their favourites to go down although they rate Sampdoria’s chances of finishing rock bottom as the highest of the three.

At the top, they overwhelmingly expect Napoli to go on and win the Scudetto for the first time since 1990. Opta give Napoli an incredible 88.7% probability of winning this year’s title and a 99.94% chance of qualifying for the Champions League.

The second-highest side are Milan at a mere 6%, so if you believe the stats, expect Giovanni di Lorenzo to be lifting that Serie A trophy in June.
Meanwhile, in Turin, although Angel di Maria managed to avoid competitive football in the run up to the World Cup, then play in almost every game in Qatar, he won’t be appearing for Juve today due to an ankle injury.

Juventus fans have reacted angrily, calling for him to have his contract terminated. Some have even taken to calling him the early winner of the Aaron Ramsey award for 2023!

Contrast this with Paulo Dybala, who unlike di Maria, cut his World Cup celebrations short to return to Roma early for training after he scored his shootout penalty in the World Cup final.

Such is the love Dybala has felt in Rome that he had donated his World Cup winners medal to the Roma historical archive for visitors to enjoy.

Here are this weeks’ Serie A matches, all taking place today.

That’s your Calcio Daily for today! You can show us some love for free by subscribing to the YouTube channel, or if you value what we do, you can send us a boost from the fountain podcast app.

Until tomorrow, this is Andrew saying “Arrivederci ragazzi, a domani!”
