Cannavaro To Everton! – Italian Football News 21 Jan 22

Fabio Cannavaro emerges again as a front runner for a managerial job.

Ciao, ragazzi! This is Andrew with your Calcio Daily for Friday January 21st, our 148th daily show in a row!

World Cup winning captain, keen cyclist and serial job applyer Fabio Cannavaro is again in the running for a new role.

Il Capitano emerged yesterday as the front runner in the race to become Everton manager for the next three months after Rafa Benitez ended his stint in the manager’s chair last weekend.

Cannavaro was said to be heading for the role Poland national coach but as much of a surprise as that news may have been, today’s news is even wilder, but strangely in keeping with both Cannavaro and Everton.

His only managerial experience to date has been in China with Guanghzou FC, whom he left in September and although he has been offered work elsewhere in the world, it’s Europe where he wants to test himself.

The Everton job has already been turned down by Jose Mourinho, while the Belgian FA refused Roberto Martinez’ crazy offer of managing Everton while also managing the Belgium national team. Yet to be offered the job and turn it down are Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard.

Some green shoots of action in the transfer market as Napoli are linked with a swoop for Empoli’s Fabiano Parisi, Nedim Bajrami and Samuele Ricci. Jordan Veretout is on the brink of a move to Spurs, who could be letting Japhed Tanganga move to Milan on loan.

Meanwhile, Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey has recovered from Covid, which means he will now only miss their game against Milan through injury!

In the Coppa Italia, Roma recovered from 1-0 early on to beat 10-man Lecce.
