Man, it’s been a busy week on the transfer front! Now that the Vlahovic transfer is finalised, clubs that missed out on him are turning their attentions elsewhere.
Most upset seem to be Arsenal, who have forgotten that apart from the financial benefits, a move for most players from Serie A to Arsenal is not a step up and that’s certainly the case for the current object of their desire, Napoli’s Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
The Gunners had a 75 million euro bid for Vlahovic immediately dismissed by Fiorentina and the player himself even said he had no interest in Arsenal. Newcastle also had their bid rejected, no shock as they are facing a relegation fight for the rest of this season.
So will Napoli consider a bids for their front man? They paid Lille 80 million for Osimhen in 2020 and after a quiet first season interrupted with injuries, this season he has led the line and Napoli have missed him when he has been absent.
There’s a feeling in Naples that Osimhen will develop into a striker along the lines of Didier Drogba. He’s faster than Drog and has similar power and srength.
So my guess is that Osimhen will go nowhere unless someone is willing to pay over 100 million for him. Arsenal and Newcastle may be desperate for strikers but neither of them will stump up that much cash.
Elsewhere in Serie A, Liverpool are linked with a move for Paulo Dybala, while his teammate Alvaro Morata is still trying to engineer a move to Barcelona, with the agreement of his parent club Atletico and his current club Juventus but that move looks increasingly unlikely.
