Fiorentina thrashed Napoli 5-2 in the Coppa Italia in a game that saw 3 red cards.

Ciao, ragazzi! This is Andrew with your Calcio Daily for Friday January 14th, our 141st daily show in a row!

A wild game in Naples saw Fiorentina through to play Atalanta in the Coppa Italia quarter finals and Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti failing to see anything positive from his team’s performance.

Fiorentina hit the bar from a header early on before Vlahovic turned the Napoli defence to strike home on 41. But then a disastrous few minutes for Viola keeper Dragowski. After 44 minutes his poor clearance found its way to Mertens and although the keeper was back on his 6 yard box, Mertens chipped in a precision curler to equalise.

Moments later, Dragowski was in no man’s land as a backpass eluded him and he took out Elif Elmas outside the box to get a straight red.

On 57 it was Biraghi showing precision as he curled past Meret and just inside the post for 2-1 to 10-man Fiorentina but after hitting the post, Napoli’s Hirving Lozano was given a straight red to even up the numbers on 84.

3 minutes into injury time, another Napoli red when Fabian Ruiz received a second yellow and it looked like the game was over but Andrea Petagna was in the right place on 94 minutes to slot home in the Fiorentina box.

10 men versus nine in extra time and the Viola took control. On 105, Venuti smashed home a wonderful Maleh cross. New signing Krystof Piatek scored on his debut on 108 and the humiliation for Napoli was complete when Maleh scored just before the final whistle.

In the other game, Milan came from behind to pile more misery on Genoa boss Andriy Shevchenko. Genoa were a goal up on 17 through Ostigard and held out until 15 minutes from time when Giroud leveled things for Milan. Goals from Leao and Steelemaekers in extra time saw Milan through.

Both Napoli and Milan could well have done without extra time though, especially in the current fixture congestion we see.
